The latest in micro-computerized technology combines with innovation in this new multi-use kitchen appliance from Sanyo. Cook top quality rice dishes, slow cook stews or soups, steam veggies, boil eggs and even make tofu in this impressive machine! The unit includes two separate inner pots and inner lids to keep slow cooked dishes separate from rice, thereby maintaining the integrity of the rice flavor. To help the need for perfectly cooked rice, the 5.5 cup (11 cups cooked) rice cooker has a variety of multi-menu, one touch selections, including programs for white, brown, mixed, rinse-free, sushi and haiga rice. Depending on the program entered, automatic adjustments in the temperature and cooking times are done by the micro-computer chip technology in the cooker to insure great tasting rice. The steaming function steams veggies with a timer programmable for up to 58 minutes. It will also take on the tasks of a slow cooker. For cooking soups or stews, you can program slow cooking for up to 12 hours on either the high or low temperature setting. The slow cook functions allow you to prepare the components of a meal before work or at some convenient time during the day. It even has a pre-programmed course for making fresh, homemade tofu! Both inner pots are extra-thick (3mm) and have round bottoms to ensure maximum heat distribution and optimum cooking. The rice cooking pot has a titanium coated non stick finish with measurement lines for simple rice cooking. Also includes exclusive Martin Yan Recipe Booklet with 16 original recipes from the celebrated master chef. These recipes have been specially selected for creating easy and delicious dishes with Sanyo small kitchen appliances.

I bought this rice cooker after researching rice cookers at consumersearch.com and reading the reviews here. It seemed to be a good value for a fuzzy-logic cooker. So far I'm very pleased. The cooker feels well-made ... among other things, the inner pots (one each for rice and slow cooking) are sturdy, and the hinges and latches for the outer and inner lid feel secure. The controls are easy enough to understand, and both the pot and inner lid are easy to clean. The rice I've made thus far (both white and brown) turned out beautifully, even when making just a single "cup." I like that it counts down the time remaining near the end and beeps when the rice is done. I haven't yet tried using as a steamer or slow cooker, but I'm looking forward to that. One caution: though it's a 5-1/2 cup cooker, it will only do 4 cups of brown rice. If you plan on making brown rice for a crowd, you may want a bigger cooker.

My fiance' is a serious (high-tech) rice cooker fan. Hates cooking rice in a pot, and thought my older, simplistic, make-in-the-microwave version was useless (I thought it was effective and economical). When we decided to get a new electronic rice cooker (we'd given his away years earlier in the quest for space in a NYC metro apartment), we wanted something that was easy to use and that made perfect rice, yet was relatively small, could multitask, and wasn't going to break the bank. THIS IS IT!!! We've had it for a few months now, and have used it as a rice cooker, slow cooker, or steamer every other week on average. It works well, makes great food with a minimum of effort, and was a great value. No it's not the cheapest, but it does what the expensive ones do without their price tags. Makes perfect amounts for a couple small family, and is reasonably sized for that task.

I bought it about 2 years ago from Amazon for rice & rice soup cooking. It is the best rice cooker I ever had. I use it for,
- Rice cook : timer cooked steam rice after 8 hours, it still tastes like fresh. You can start the cook in the morning. The rice will be ready when you get back from work in the evening. It uses only 10W/hour for keeping it warm.
- Rice soup : almost every night, I add in 2tbs oat meal & 3 tbs rice & 3cups water into the slow cooker, and set it to 6 hours for slow cooking. In the morning morning, it has my rice soup done.
It is so very well made with titanium, simply the best quality.

I have tried to make rice with other rice cookers and on the stove for some time but never succeeded. Finally decided I would move up in the world and get the Sanyo. I am so very pleased. It makes perfect rice, white or brown, every time. It keeps the white rice that has been cooked warm the whole day, so it is ready when you want it. The machine itself seems well built, the controls are easy to follow, and the pots for the rice are durable. Even the cord retracts inside for easy storage. Having used one of these, I can't imagine ever going back to one of the cheap ones. In the end you get what you pay for. You won't be disappointed with this sanyo rice cooker.

We've had the Sanyo ECJ H55 S rice cooker for about six months and have made dozens of batches of rice of virtually every variety with it. It cost us twice as much as our former rice cooker, but since it's twenty times better, it's a steal, even though it's over a hundred bucks.
It's easy to use, program, and understand. The retractable cord is a big plus, and its compact size lets us shelve it when it's not being used. If counter space were more plentiful in our kitchen, we'd keep it out, because it looks good and has an accurate digital clock built in. It's easy to clean after use, and since it doesn't boil over like our previous (Cuisinart) cooker, only the internal parts that are in contact with the rice need to be scrubbed. The non-stick finish cleans up in a flash and looks like it's going to last forever.
In my opinion, this is the one you want.
